How to Wear A Floral Dress Six Ways

Summer is here and what better way to beat the heat than with a little floral dress! Floral dresses have always been a staple in my closet and would love to share with you my favorite ways of wearing them! It is always so nice to remix our wardrobe with our favorite pieces.

This is my favorite little floral dress. This is how I would wear it on its own, with some fun colored heels or flats and some gold accessories.

This is how I would wear my floral dress on a date night!! Pair it with a white lightweight blazer, layered gold chains and some wooden brown heels.

This is how I would wear it shopping!!! Throw on a denim vest, or denim jacket, whatever you have in your closet, pair with a pair of comfortable tan wedges and voila! Instant comfortable style!

This is how I would wear it at the park with my precious toddlers!!! I love these two patterns together, nautical and floral. Plus this really stretches the use of the dress as it has now transformed into a cute floral skirt. Everyone has a nautical striped top in their closet right? Add fedora hat to keep me cool and a little extra style, and some cute nude Oxford flats and ready to hit that playground!

This is how I would wear it at a Sunday brunch or church outing. Sweet and girly. Wear your favorite light-colored cardigan over it, grab a skinny belt from your closet to cinch that waist in and polish off with a pair of nude heels.

And finally, this is how I would wear it on my girls night out!!! The dress has now been transformed into a floral bustier top which happens to be so in at the moment! This look can be achieved with any black high-waisted item you have in your closet. Black skater skirt, black pencil skirt, or even a pair of black pants will work if your dress is not too bulky. Otherwise just stick to layering it with a high-waisted skirt.

On our Summer radar…..

Summer rolls around, and everything seems lovelier. Maybe I am just seeing things through rose-colored glasses from all of the extra Vitamin D, but I want to try new things and be more adventurous. What’s on my radar for the month of June?

First off, I must try the Skinnygirl Mojito. I am a huge fan of Mojitos and love having one in the summer. But of course, I’m not a huge fan of the calories and sugar content. Cheers to this making the cut!

Now let’s talk about the Banana Republic/Milly collaboration. I’m not overly impressed (I think they played it way too safe), but I do love these shorts.

A collab I’m much happier with the result is that of Target and Sam & Libby. I was in there over the weekend and wanted to buy all of them! Great prices, great timeless yet trendy enough style. Here’s my favorite:

This might seem silly, but I can’t stop thinking about ordering a few pairs of these barre socks. You don’t have to wear them specifically for bar method, barre, or daily method classes (although the skids are super helpful during the workout) – and they will give your boring old white and black sock drawer a lift. Aren’t the prints and colors cute?

These past couple of months a few of my friends and family members have had new babies. What to get a 2nd or 3rd time Mom? I actually saw this (well not this exact one) in a client’s home recently and had to ask her where she had it made.

Etsy, of course! The shop is called Designs by Nicolina. You can personalized this with your own size and color choices, and I plan to head to Hobby Lobby for a pretty white frame and mat.

Lastly, I can’t get enough of Gorjana’s ‘Greer Bow Tie necklace.’ It would go with everything, and eliminates the need to have to layer your necklaces because it’s just interesting enough on it’s own.

The Carrie Diaries Looks

The last few nights I have been so exhausted that all I wanted to do after my usual long days, is crawl into my bed and watch something cute and uplifting. Going through my DVR, I settled on The Carrie Diaries. I have to say I was OBSESSED with Sex and the City!!! I have the DVD series, the board game, the books… you name it, I have it!!! So I was a bit hesitant to start watching the prequel to the Sex and the City series that runs on CW called The Carrie Diaries. The show follows Carrie as she defines herself in her highschool years. And it’s actually pretty good! The humor is there, the drama is there, and most of all, the fashion is TOTALLY there!!! Even though the show is set back in 1984, the show’s costume designer, Eric Daman, is doing an amazing job incorporating current trends to the 80′s era. Bold colors, lots of prints on prints, skinny jeans, polka dots, and of course lot of peplum tops and skirts! Eric Daman was Patricia Field’s assistant (legendary stylist of Sex and the City) on the show. She calls him a great friend and brilliant stylist. I have to agree. I love the quirky Carrie looks!! Fills the void of not being able to watch Carrie’s amazing fashion on SATC a little bit! Take a look!

Shoes, Shoes, Shoes…….

Memorial day weekend is upon us, and shoes are on the brain. In particular, shoes to wear to a wedding. I’ve got a family wedding to attend this weekend out of town, and I bet many of you have weddings coming up in the next couple of months.

I’ve got three stipulations for a new pair of dressy shoes:

1. Not super expensive

2. Must be able to transition to casual (aka worn with jeans or dressy shorts)

3. On-trend but not trendy, persay

To my surprise, I found a lot of great options! I won’t divulge what I purchased (so I can Instagram about it this weekend, ha!), but what I bought WILL be included. Maybe you can guess. ;-)))

First up, something basic and beautiful. Nude platform pumps with just a touch of something different about them.

There’s no denying my obsession with these. Subtle animal print + hot pink? Yes, please and thank you.

Joan & David Odelia Pumps, on sale at Nordstrom for $120!!!

Fell in love with these Ivanka Trump sandals/pumps once I tried them on. They look gorge on your feet. A lady walking by me in Nordstrom’s shoe department even said ” You MUST buy those, they are fab.” Can’t argue with that!

Another Joan & David I couldn’t walk away from – gold and black will match almost any LBD in your closet.

This is the perfect shoe if you need something on the lighter side, color-wise. I love that it has a little bit of glitz to it, but it’s not a super high heel.

Need something saucy and black? These lace ups aren’t really a lace up (thank gawd) since they zip up the back (even cooler) and – they will never go out of style.

This one is a little obvious for a wedding, but sometimes the most obvious shoes are the hardest to find!

Personal Shopping Maven

I have been shopping like a maniac lately. Not so much for me, but for my clients (yay!). Everyone is looking for a few new spring and summer items to pop into their closets – and luckily for them, there’s a lot out there. I wanted to highlight some of my favorite things for you – some are budget friendly too, yippee!

First off, this Skater dress from Asos. It says the fabric is ‘bonded.’ What this really means is that the fabric feels like a scuba diving suit! It’s awesome. Super flattering and keeps it’s structure. Comes in this pretty green color and also coral. Only $84.85.

Having a mini love affair with floral print heels. If you’re not so sure about the floral trend ending up on your thighs, wearing it on your shoes is the way to go. These Ted Baker platform floral pumps are gorgeous, and only $74.

Another style I can’t get enough of? Camouflage print skinny jeans. They go with just about anything, and are trendy in a super casual ‘oh, i just threw these on’ way. These are from Madewell, but are Textile by Elizabeth & James. Oh yeah – they’re on SALE! Normally $192, now $139.50.

Another dress that is just easy-peasy for summer is this ribbed ponte knit number from Banana Republic. I have to give my Mom and sis credit for this one, they found it and I had to check it out for myself. The fabric is stretchy with a teensy bit of sheen, and you can show off those legs ladies! At $98 it’s a no brainer - it comes in black and cobalt blue too.

Another shoe I can’t get off my mind? This BCBG Gamma Mesh Bootie. Originally $275, it’s at Neiman Marcus’ Last Call site for $189. These are TO DIE FOR in person – trust me.

This new necklace from Gorjana is insanely cute on. Trust me on this!!! So original but not trendy, you will want to wear it every day. Greer Bow Tie Necklace, $80.

One last thing. The peplum trend just isn’t going away – and that’s ok with me. It is flattering on a lot of body types – that’s rare. Shopbop has done an exclusive peplum top with Alice + Olivia in some pretty pastels with an exposed back zipper. Mint green and peach. Pretty with white or light denim, white slacks, a printed skirt (as shown), or even dressed down with some cut off jean shorts and cool gladiator sandals.

Fashion Designers Expo – Miami FL

I was very excited to be co-styling for the Fashion Designers Expo this March in Miami!

FDE who has now partnered with the World Fashion Organization, helps emerging designers to make a name for themselves and help support a great cause. This year FDE helped raise AIDS awareness. Walk Red Talk Red. And showcased 10 local designers. From swimsuits, to gowns, to sports apparel, to hats, we had it all!!!

How to Wear Floral Jeans / Pants

I love how this trend is just not going away anytime soon!!! It is still hitting the runways and gracing the bodies of our most loved celebrities.

The Floral Denim Pant!!!!!!

I finally found the right pair for me. I needed something that is not too loud, too bright, not black and white, a little muted with just the right amount of garden. And I found them. At Sears of all places. I was there looking at the Kardashian Kollection and there they were. Love at first sight. And the fit is amazing. Nice stretchy comfy fabric that moves with me and keeps me cool in hot FLA.

So the question is.. how do I wear these pants??

Below are my fave looks I have worn so far.

Super clean and classic. White tank top, floral pants, black blazer and black stilettos.

Everyday casual cool. Paired with a slouchy white top, what used to be a denim jacket now a denim vest, fedora hat and pair of nude flats. Great for everyday.

Another casual cool look. Floral pants paired with graphic tee and combat boots. I like to wear a bandeau top underneath the graphic tank.

Two different ways to add a pop of color. First look is the floral pants with the slouchy white t shirt as pictured earlier and my favorite pink suede pumps, perfect for a girls night out. Second look is the floral pants paired with a hot pink blouse and a pair of nude flats. Perfect for a day out with my kiddies!!

This yellow pop of color I would save for a date night! And wear that grey sweater off the shoulder for some skin. Effortless.

This look is when I feel a little Rihanna-esque! If you can pull off two patterns go for it!! This outfit actually looks super cool on. Floral pants with white lace tank top and animal print heels. Very cool.

Here I am doing another bright color, blue, with my favorite floral jeans and brown gladiator wedges. Perfect for a day of shopping down Lincoln Road!

And there you have it. Dont be afraid to mix patterns, colors, textures!! Fashion should be fun!
