Dana Rebecca Designs

Recently I had the pleasure of getting to meet Dana of Dana Rebecca Designs jewelry.  I have been admiring her jewelry for some time now, but I’ve never had the chance really see, feel, and touch many of the pieces – until now.

What I love about her pieces is that they are all timeless and elegant, but she does manage to exude a bit of an edge to her collection.  It’s appropriate for all ages, and many, if not all of the pieces come in white gold, yellow gold, or rose gold.  I came away with this:  Dana understands that each woman is unique in the way she wears her jewelry.  She knows that some women can wear a statement piece with some jeans and booties, and also knows that some women save those statement pieces for an event.

The other thing  I love about DRD jewelry is that Dana is from the Chicago area, born and raised.  She loves this city and has built this amazing business in it!  Chicago women in business, yay!

Here are some of my favorites from my private little showing:

IMG_2024I’m clearly a little excited about this – working on my layering……this is a Sylvie Rose Bar necklace + the Reese Brooklyn necklace.

IMG_2023This Sylvie Rose Double Bar is probably my favorite thing in the collection, shown here with the Reese Brooklyn necklace and another that is no longer online (but still gorrrrgeeeous!)

IMG_2027Not the best Iphone pic, but this Jessica Sarah Ring is insanely amazing on your finger.

IMG_2026And here is that Sylvie Rose Double Bar necklace.

IMG_2021My fingers are blinged out here with the Katie Z ring (on the left) and a new ring that is coming soon to the Dana Rebecca Designs collection.  (don’t judge the nail situation, pretty please)

IMG_2020More of the Katie Z ring….it’s ridiculously pretty and dainty on your finger.

IMG_2018Some assorted Lauren Joy cuffs mingling with the Jeb cuff.

IMG_2017All of these earrings are to die for, really.  Bottom to top, the Rima Naya in white gold, the Sharone Ezra in rose gold, and many colors of the Anna Beth.

IMG_2015Which of these do I want?  All of them of course!  Bottom to top, the Melissa Louise, Emily Meredith, and the Reese Brooklyn.

IMG_2014These babies are one of a kind.  Obvi.

So if you haven’t yet heard of Dana Rebecca, aren’t you glad you read this post?  :-)  Tell me what your favorites are?

My {favorite} things, 2013 edition.

Happy New Year everyone!  2013 was quite a year – but I’m predicting 2014 will be even better.  I thought I would share with you a few of my favorite material things from this past year.  It’s often hard to find a great hand cream, mascara, even a favorite blazer or pair of boots, but I am a believer in buying quality over quantity – and you should do the same.  Nothing worse than buying a pair of boots to have them wear out too quickly – or buying some ‘long lasting’ mascara to have it flake off on your cheekbones during the day.

So go ahead and browse through my favs……since I know most of you are laying around the house like me!

Meeting the Damsel.

Last week Jen (our newest Style Spy) and I had the absolute pleasure of meeting a blogging icon, Jacey Duprie of Damsel in Dior.  She hopped on a plane from warm LA to literally 5 degree Chicago for an event at our Ted Baker store on Rush Street.  Lucky for us, since it was so unbelieveably cold, we think it kept some people away.  More time for us to chat with Jacey and see who the girl behind the {fabulous} blog really is.

Let me tell you, she’s every bit as fabulous as she is in her blog, but also just a girl, like you and me.  Completely down to earth, funny, and obviously a super smart businesswoman.  Completely self branded and self made – pretty awesome.

If you don’t follow the Damsel, you should.

And if you haven’t checked out her collaboration with my good friend Gorjana, you should do that as well.

Here are a few of our favorites from the Damsel X Gorjana collection.

Styling, Shopping, Consulting, oh my!

This past week was one of my busiest this Fall for Style Spies.   A lot of personal shopping, personal styling, and a closet consult coupled with styling a client for a photo shoot with Sheridan Road magazine, I felt like I was living, eating and breathing fashion!  Not that I should complain – that’s a little slice of heaven right?  I wanted to give you all a taste of the week via my choices for clients – maybe you can pick up some tips and ideas for your turkey day attire?

This glamour shot {haha} is me  getting my hair ‘did’ for a family wedding last weekend.  I had my stylist do what she calls a ‘mohawk ponytail.’  Basically super teased and then smoothed out on the top of my head leading back to a sleep ponytail.  I LOVED it.  So many compliments – I will definitely rock this look again.

And here I am in a Banana Republic fitting room.  I was shopping for a client, but saw this vest and immediately knew it had to be mine.  The whole store was 30% off last weekend and this was SO worth it!  BR is sold out of this animal print online, but they do still have this dark grey faux fur vest (which I also tried on).  $130, fits true to size.   I can’t wait to wear it with the plaid shirt from H&M below………

This shirt was literally $9.95.  H&M.  I can’t find it online – but here’s something similar for $19.95.  Maybe it’s in stores only?  It’s a longer flannel -looks great with some faux leather leggings, skinny jeans, and back to the Banana Republic leopard print vest (above).

Oh…….Target.  Le sigh.  If you are choosey and particular, you will come away with gold.  This Converse One Star l/s button down is super comfortable, only $22.99, and comes in a variety of colors.  I bought it last spring in white, and was excited to find it last week in my favorite Fall color, burgundy!   You CAN’T go wrong with this people – it looks amazing with a blazer and dressed up, and is also super easy with some denim and booties for a more casual approach.

And here’s the fabulousness that I used for my client’s photo shoot with Sheridan Road.  It’s McQ Alexander McQueen – fringed plaid tunic at Neiman Marcus for $795.  Absolutely gorgeous on – very figure flattering.  We paired it with a cool thick studded belt and a long sleeve black tee.  And then on the bottom she wore……

Pants are by Funktional.  You can find them at for $160.  Perfect combination of ponte knit and leather paneling.  They go with everything -but looked amazing with the McQueen tunic above.

On a different note, I stumbled upon these amazing combat-style booties while doing some personal shopping.  Found them at Shirise here on the North Shore of Chicago (Glencoe, to be specific).  The brand is called A.S. 98, and they’re based in Verona, Italy.    You can buy them online at Shirise if you’re as in-love with them as I am……….the brand is relatively new to the US and trust me, I had a hard time locating them!

Here’s another AMAZING pair of booties by the AS 98 brand, found at

Lauren Joy Medium Pave Diamond Studs, $850

Also at Shirise, there happened to be a Dana Rebecca Trunk Show going on.  I am newly in love with her jewelry.  So simple and beautiful, perfect everyday-glam pieces.  She was featured in InStyle (as you can see) last October, and again this month for the earrings below.  What else do I love?  She’s based in Chicago!!!!  Who doesn’t love a Chicago-girl killing it in business?

I can’t get over this ring, either:

Sylvie Rose Double Bar Ring, $495

So that’s just a tiny capsule of my week – got any favorites amongst my picks?  I’d love to know…..

I’m looking forward to some ‘me’ time this week and unwinding (a tiny bit) for the Thanksgiving holiday.  Happy Monday everyone!

Bootie Bootie Bootie

Yes, this post is entitled Bootie Bootie Bootie.  Not creative per say, but I got your attention didn’t I?

As a stylist and wardrobe consultant, one of the main items I’ve been recommending my clients add into their closet this season is the bootie.  If they didn’t already have a pair from last year, it is TIME.  It’s not a fad, people, they’re here to stay.

Not sure which ones to buy?  Too many to choose from?  I agree – there are a lot of variations out there and some are T.A.C.K.Y.

To help you narrow down and make some choices, I’ve rounded up some of my favorites this season.  Some of which I have bought for my clients while doing some personal shopping, and a couple of which I just might own!   ;-)

If you don’t want to buy too many pairs, here’s some Style Spies advice:  get a black pair for dressier occasions and get a brown more casual pair for daytime.  Brown tends to go with everything, black always dresses an outfit up.

Voila!  You’ll be bootiful in your booties!

What I Wore {to a fab fall soiree}

This past weekend I was invited to a REALLY fab 40th birthday party for a friend’s husband.  My friend did an absolutely amazing job planning the party – from the lanterns in the front of the home to the LIVE BAND to the food truck with the BEST BURGERS EVER (I’m still thinking about them) to the S’mores trays courtesy of Pinterest (where would we be without it) it was really well done.

So clever – cute chalkboard stickers with white chalkboard markers handy so you can write your name on your wine glass and never lose it! 429a12f633bb11e39ff222000aa8009c_6

The S’Mores turntable.  There was one of these at every table!

At the last minute one of our kids came down with a fever, so I ended up going to the party solo – but I still made my husband take a couple of pics of me before I headed out the door.  I had been planning my outfit all week, so here you go.  It was an outdoor event, and here in Chicago the weather has been 60′s during the day, and pretty darn chilly (40′s and 50′s at night).  So I needed to dress for the weather (i.e. no cute ‘going out tops’ and no pumps).

Onto this weekend…..what are we doing?  Well today we took our yearly family photos – and if you are a Mom, you know that may have just wiped me out for the weekend. ;-)  Getting everyone ready in the house (including your husband) and then yourself?  Throw in a couple of little people melting down and you’re right – my hair did not look the way it started out, that’s for sure.

I also must head over to our local mall, Northbrook Court, because the Kate Spade store is having an amazing Friends and Family event.  The whole store is 30% off!  There is so much in there that I LOVE right now….totally in trouble.

Kate Spade

I’m not sure what I will be getting, but if these are in the store, I will for sure be trying them on!!!  Simply so gorgeous and chic!
