Open Closet: Megan of ‘Chasing Davies’ blog

So many great things about today.  It’s Friday.  It’s the beginning of Labor Day weekend (3 days!).  Said weekend catapults us fashion-addicts straight into Fall clothing and goodies (and FNO!!!).  And for Style Spies, we get to introduce you to a favorite blogger of ours (and her closet).  Lucky everyone!

Without further ado, this is Megan of Chasing Davies.

Megan’s blog is adored by many (948 members and counting!).  We think it’s her frank and candid style of writing paired with impeccable personal style, as well as her ability to hunt down great deals for on-trend pieces.  She’s a busy girl, holding down a full time job and writing this blog, as well as being a wife and Mommy to a beautiful baby boy.  She’s also a Kansas City gal, a special place to Erin and I as we both grew up there.

Our Open Closet series is just getting started and Megan’s love of style and fashion combined with her brilliant blog made her the perfect choice  for the first closet featured other than ours.  Given Megan’s busy life, we were thrilled she was able to set aside some time to take some shots of her closet and answer some questions for us.   Thanks so much Megan!

Here we go…..in Megan’s words…….

Overall Closet View: This is a glimpse into my, what I think, small closet. My husband would disagree, but it’s no walk-in that I so desperately wish I had.  Someday, I’d love a complete closet re-org, because I know I’m not making the best use of my space (small or large depending on who you ask), and first thing is first in this closet make-over: matching hangers.

Top of the Closet: I use the top of my closet to store shoes.  These shoes in the white cubes are the ones I wear sometimes. The ones stored out of sight are more special occasion shoes that I do not need as much access too.

Shoe Storage: On the floor of my closet, below my hanging close is where I store more shoes. These shoes I wear often and are my more every day shoes.

Hat Storage: Because I ran out of room in my closet, I expanded to the wall outside, hanging my hats. This is also a good way to keep them from getting smashed.

Obsessions:  If you look closely at the items hanging in my closet you might notice a pattern. Printed dresses are a current weakness (birds, dots, stripes…), a plethora of stripe skirts and there is no shortage of button down shirts (in solids and patterns alike).

Outfits on Hand: One thing I like to do when I’m feeling inspired and/or have a few extra minutes is pull some outfits together from my closet and hang them smack in the center. This way on mornings I’m feeling less inspired (Mondays) or when I’m running late (everyday), I can quickly pull on an outfit that has some thought to it (no matter when that thinking occurred).  I especially like to do this as I’m flipping through new magazines or surfing the web (Pinterest, blogs…).

Looking forward to Fall: I could rattle off a long list of things I’m looking forward to wearing once these temperatures cool down, but lets start with booties (Kate Spade bow booties were a last year splurge & Old Navy (p?)leather booties were a major steal) and patterned scarves (leopard is becoming a problem of mine and a new favorite print is anything tribal).

Finally, our Q & A with the leopard-obsessed, pattern-loving, hat-wearing, very-organized in a small space Megan Davey:

What is it about fashion that keeps you coming back for next season’s trends?  The challenge and thrill when you find something that makes you feel great!

What is your one most coveted piece in your closet and why?  If I had to pick just one… probably my Kate Spade booties.  I got them on sale last year, yet still a splurged. They are such a great staple that will be worn for years to come.

From your earliest memory, what spurred your love of clothing and getting ‘dressed up?’ Actually, this passion came later in life – towards the end of high school and more in college. I was a swimmer for 15 years and my hair was fried, smelled of chlorine all the time and was getting wet on and off all day, so hard to care about style. It was one of my best friend’s that rubbed off on me finally once my swimming career died down and I’ve been evolving since.

What is your favorite season for fashion/clothing and why? Fall, hands down.  I feel there is a lot more creativity and fun that can be had when the weather is just right for layers.

Favorite KC boutiques? Donna’s Dress Shop, Birdies, Frankly Basic, just to name a few.

All-time favorite KC restaurant? I love brunch, my favorite meal of the day, so when I can get out for it I love Classic Cup located on The Plaza!  Great food, great patio and perfect location to walk around and shop afterwards.

Biggest splurge?  Biggest bargain? Biggest splurge are those Kate Spade booties or full priced items from J.Crew… I don’t have too many expensive pieces, as I like to get still quality items for deals! Biggest bargain has been the entire store of Old Navy lately. They’ve been really doing it for me, plus tons of promo sales and reward dollars, I’ve been get great pieces for Fall for way cheap.

Signing off in Style,

Mollie & Erin (and Megan)
